Martin's notes: I was in the car with my dad on the motorway; I can’t remember where we were going. The MP Tony Banks was on the radio talking about the then MP, Tony Blair; he said something about Blair ‘riding the tiger’. I had never heard the phrase and filed it away for later use. I wrote the song on my twelve string acoustic, sitting on the spare bed at Mount Street. It was done very quickly; I was trying to write simpler, more rounded songs. It was while Sice was in the studio recording ‘First Fruits’ as Eggman. I think it may also have been my birthday.
Lyrics: I don't really need to be the way I are, I don't really need to always go so far, I could get by on being alive but having no life. And I don't want to miss a trick, don't want to regret anything. I want to step into the fire. Take it further, ride the tiger. I don't really need a fuel infected car, I don't really need (or want) to be some kind of star, I could get by on being alive but having no life. You don't really know what it is you ask, all that I want is to find some piece at last. Take it further, ride the tiger.
