Martin's notes: I was in the tiny upstairs room at the back of our house in Mount Street when I wrote this. Judging by the lyrics I was evidently suffering from a lack of direction. I wanted this album (C’mon Kids) to go
back to just being the four of us, with no session musicians. We were back at Rockfield with Andy Wilkinson and our favourite assistant Paul. It was a great session. That’s Rob’s voice at the start, “I nearly had it there”. I nearly called the album that. That’s why we got him in the band, so he could talk and laugh all over the intros and outros.
Lyrics: It’s as big or if you want it too small for the eye to see. Dare you take a peek inside it? Forget yourself, what can it be? Things you know you shouldn’t look at, things you know you shouldn’t see, things my dad couldn’t explain and things that others kept from me. It could be places you’ve not been to or something of which you’re ashamed. Some time when you took the credit, another when you look the blame.
It’s in your head and in your heart. It’s everywhere you can see. C’mon kids and smash the lock, reach within and find the key. Crawl inside and leave the rest behind. C’mon now, look in the box and see whatcha got.
